The dense forested valley of the Rengbach is spanned by a wooden bridge, constructed in 1791, acting as a pilgrim pathway to the church of Hergiswood. Aim of the project was to construct a new bridge at an acceptable distance, where cars can pass. The conceptual design proposes a slim construction assuring the view on the old bridge. Both bridges establish a unique ensemble, with the wooden bridge persisting as soloist. The new bridge has been constructed with two arches of prestressed concrete, and, therefore, leaves a very slim impression. Altogether, the bridge is charaterized by the use of only one material, and a very efficient and narrowed construction and design.
