The photo studio is situated in the backyard of the residential house of the photographer, painter, and sculptor Erik Staub. The shape of the building expresses the singularity of the studio and its artistic use within the fabric of the suburbia. The colour concept is inspired by a series of huge paintings to which Erik refers as his ‘big reds’. It helps to create a kind of corporate identity for the artist and his studio.
The new building hugs the existing residential building. A second entrance to the side was built to separate the private and professional circulation areas. This leads to a small entrée from which the main studio space is accessed. Two big skylights are used for the lighting of the studio which can be shaded with internal shutters.
